On September 10th, actor Jang Dong Gun attended the press conference for his movie "Dangerous Liaisons" along with costar Zhang Ziyi and director Hur Jinho at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
At the press conference he compared the differences in working with Cecilia Cheung and Zhang Ziyi. Jang Dong Gun stated, "I've worked with Cecilia Cheung before on 'The Promise.' She's like my younger sister. This is the first time I've worked with Zhang Ziyi. She's more mature than I am, so she felt like my sunbae."
He was also asked why he was taking on characters that are a different style than the characters he played before he got married. He explained, "The characters I took up before I got married were mostly dark characters. I wanted to try lighter, brighter characters. I felt like it would be a fresh change if I started acting other types of characters after I got married."
The movie Dangerous Liaisons is about a love triangle between the playboy Xie Yifan (played by Jang Dong Gun), the graceful and calm widow Du Fenyu (played by Zhang Ziyi), and the sensual femme fatale, Madame Mojiewee (played by Cecelia Cheung). The movie was screened last May at the 65th Cannes Film Festival, and the cast were invited to the 37th Toronto International Film Festival.
Additionally, it seems Jang Dong Gun received a lot of attention with his presence at TIFF.
