Ga In upset over Mnet's 'evil editing' of her segment on 'Superstar K7' + Mnet apologizes

This is something 'SMTM' is more known for, but it has happened on 'Superstar K' as well, at least in the latest episode of the 7th season. And what we're talking about is 'evil editing', which is a term used when programs piece together various footage to make something seem different or more dramatic than it actually was. Brown Eyed Girls' Ga In, who served as a special judge for the recent broadcast of 'Superstar K7' was a victim of such editing.

On the episode, Ga In was portrayed as a rather picky and hard-to-please judge, who had criticisms for many contestants that other veteran singer judges on the show praised. This led netizens to criticize her, asking how someone with less experience than the other judges was qualified to call contestants inadequate when the other judges thought they were great.

To contestant Kim Bo Ra, Ga In remarked, "Your song went so overboard," and to contestant Im Ye Song, she was seen saying things like "Do you have nasal inflammation? I can't hear the good lyrics of the song."

While in comparison, the other judges gave compliments to the contestants like, "It's unique", "Where have you been this whole time?" and "This is the best live I've heard in this region".

When the other judges let Im Ye Song onto the next round, Ga In had given a no pass. Or at least, that's what happened in the broadcast.

But apparently, that's not how it happened at all. Clearly upset and frustrated, Ga In posted a photo of herself with her back turned, with the caption, "I definitely said 'pass' but why did it air that I said 'no pass'? Please don't hate me. I really didn't say that. Really. #evilediting I thought that this would happen at least once to me sometime. Hello? Nice to meet you [evil editing]!"

This prompted Mnet to speak up, acknowledging that they had made a mistake. They explained, "Judge Ga In was shown to have not passed contestant Im Ye Song. However there was an editing mistake by the production team, and it's true that she had actually passed the contestant."

They also explained how the mistake was made by saying, "There are many producers in charge of filming and editing. In the process of collecting the edited pieces, since the filming producer and the editing producer are two different people, and the 'super week' schedule overlapped, we weren't able to properly confirm the finalized work. The editing error is the fault of the production team." 

They added, "The production team deeply apologizes for what has happened, and we will put in the effort so that this does not reoccur. And to Ga In, who has been active as a special judge, we have prepared a separate apologetic message to her."
