After reminding you he was "Still Alive," J.Y. Park has released yet another single, "Fire," and teamed up with funny man Conan O'Brien for the MV, also starring Steven Yeun (actor, Walking Dead). Park Ji Min (15&) provides vocals for the song but does not actually appear in the MV. O'Brien's Team Coco YouTube channel debuted the MV on the same day as the TV special 'Conan In Korea' aired in the U.S.
The song is, at first listen, nothing to write home about, being just a simple faux-retro electropop tune, but it's J.Y. Park's energetic vocals that set this one apart. He certainly sounds frenetic, and the energy is almost contagious. There's some definite throwback cheese in here, like the female backup singer (an overdubbed Park Ji Min), but the cheese works in its favor and keeps you listening to find out what more the song has in store. The lyrics indicate that he goes crazy whenever he hears music, and his body's on 'fire.'
If we thought he was a bit wild and crazy in "Still Alive," you ain't seen nothing yet (apologies to Bachman-Turner Overdrive). He has such a nutty energy here, that you think he's literally going to explode. It's almost like he went over the top to produce this, but not necessarily -- he likely misses the spotlight, we know he's a music lover, and it's entirely possible that this is just him cutting loose. It feels authentic, and that is a great thing.
