'Missing 9' - Episode 8

Ways to die on a deserted island #119: choke to death under the leg of the guy sleeping next to you.

Things are really not looking up for our female heroine Ra Bong Hee (played by Baek Jin Hee) on episode 8 of 'Missing 9'. At this point, it's honestly too easy to not believe Ra Bong Hee's story, and just side with Choi Tae Ho (played by Choi Tae Joon), who has several upper hands. Without the public knowing that Choi Tae Ho purposely delayed his return to Korea, he has a perfect story behind what happened on the island and who killed Yoon So Hee. Even 1 vs. 1, when pitting his story against Ra Bong Hee's, who had amnesia at the worst time ever, Choi Tae Ho is easier to believe. Life becomes easier for everyone when a beloved celebrity returns alive and becomes a hero, and the criminal is conveniently dead and/or nowhere to be found.

Then things get even better (oh boy!) as Choi Tae Ho threatens secretary Tae Hang Ho again in the present, coercing him into blaming Seo Jun Oh (played by Jung Kyung Ho) for So Hee's death and even coining Bong Hee as an accomplice. The only one who seems to still believe Bong Hee is prosecutor Yoon Tae Young (played by Yang Dong Geun). He's able to do so thanks to the fact that Tae Ho insulted So Hee while in a drunken stupor, and prosecutor Yoon overheard him. Otherwise, there would be literally no one left on Bong Hee's side! Well, there is the possibility of investigator Oh, who has shown signs of wanting to defy his boss investigator Jo Hee Kyung. But will he still believe Bong Hee after secretary Tae's confessions?

Choi Tae Ho is making everyone want to barf, even Block B's Zico...

Secretary Tae is definitely a very important pawn in Choi Tae Ho's plans. Many of the characters in the present, such as the new CEO Jang Do Pal, the investigators, prosecutor Yoon, and such, all play roles in advancing this very fast-paced plot, as Choi Tae Ho digs his murderous grave deeper. But I can't help but feel that on the island, the side characters like Ha Ji Ah (played by Lee Sun Bin), manager Jung Ki Joon, even CEO Hwang Jae Kook, and now reporter Kim, seem a bit useless. These people are stranded on a deserted island, with a murderer who has killed at least two of their comrades, but no one is doing anything, and barely show up on the screen. While Jun Oh is frantically trying to find the truth behind composer Shin Jae Hyun's death, what the heck is everyone else doing? And when Jun Oh goes missing looking for the escaped Choi Tae Ho, why do they let a tiny girl go after them alone? Characters need to serve a purpose in a storyline. In episode 7, reporter Kim was critical in advancing the plot by revealing new information about Jae Hyun's death. But in episode 8, some of these minor characters have started to become extremely flat and unnecessary. Please, everyone, do something!

Since no one else is doing anything interesting, I have no choice but to continue killing people!

A very interesting element we have to note is the boat that the three men spotted at the very end of the episode. We still have no idea how in the world these people managed to get off of the deserted island, so if more survivors are going to return to the present in the next episode (as the preview seems to hint that they are), then we will really need that explanation, soon. If the survivors on the island don't find a way to escape asap, they're going to have to face off in a violent fight against Choi Tae Ho, who must be a cat or something because the man is hard to kill! Anyways, if Bong Hee has reason to believe that Seo Jun Oh is alive and will return to the present, like she said to Tae Ho (and it didn't look like bluff because why would she need to bluff about that at all), then the battle to exploit Tae Ho's lies and expose the truth to the media will be a long one; one that will take up the remaining 8 episodes of this series. But if the super-fast pace of this drama so far is any indication, then there's more to this drama than we've been let on, right? Until next time!
