Son Ye Jin honored as 'Actor of the Year' at the 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival

Actress Son Ye-jin has been named the 'Actor of the Year' at the 28th Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BIFAN), set to take place from July 4 to July 14 in Bucheon City. The announcement was made by BIFAN's executive chairman Shin Chul.

This year's special exhibit titled "Exceptional Son Ye-jin" will spotlight Son's illustrious 23-year acting career through a variety of events, including the publication of a commemorative book, a 'Mega Talk' session, and a photo exhibition. Son is also scheduled to grace the red carpet at the opening ceremony of BIFAN.

Established in 2017, the 'Actor Special Exhibit' at BIFAN recognizes leading contemporary actors who have significantly influenced Korean cinema. Previous honorees include acclaimed actors like Jeon Do-yeon, Jung Woo-sung, Kim Hye-soo, Sul Kyung-gu, and Choi Min-sik.

Son Ye-jin has garnered critical acclaim for her roles in a wide array of films such as "Lover’s Concerto," "The Classic," "A Moment to Remember," "The Art of Seduction," "My Wife Got Married," "Spellbound," "The Pirates," "The Truth Beneath," and "The Last Princess." Her impressive collection of awards includes over 50 accolades, such as the Prime Minister's Commendation at the 9th Korean Popular Culture and Arts Awards, three Grand Bell Awards, six Baeksang Arts Awards, five Blue Dragon Film Awards, and two Korean Film Critics Association Awards. She has also been internationally recognized with awards like the Best Actress at the 51st Asia Pacific Film Festival for "April Snow" and at the 15th China Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers Film Festival for "A Moment to Remember."

BIFAN programmer Mo Eun-young praised Son Ye-jin for her ability to transcend genre and form, describing her as "a representative actress of the 21st century with a unique charm through films and dramas." Mo expressed confidence that the special exhibition would offer a deep dive into Son's profound acting world, showcasing her versatility and depth.

Son Ye-jin expressed her profound gratitude for being selected for this year's special exhibition, mentioning how honored she felt to follow in the footsteps of respected seniors and thanking the festival for providing such a prestigious moment in her acting career.
