Actress Park Han Byul recalled the time when her husband, Yoo In Seok, former CEO of Yuri Holdings, was implicated in the 'Burning Sun controversy,' revealing that even her mother-in-law urged her to get a divorce.
On the April 1 episode of TV Chosun’s variety show 'Dad and I,' Park Han Byul opened up about the emotional struggles she faced due to her husband's scandal and shared her gratitude for her father, who silently stood by her side during those difficult times.
Park Han Byul described that period as a living nightmare. She said, “Everywhere I turned—on TV, on my phone—people were talking about me. No matter who I met, it was the same. I felt completely powerless, and every day felt like hell."
She went on to reveal that everyone around her advised her to get a divorce. She added, “Even my mother-in-law told me to leave him for my own sake, and she cried as she said it.”
Her husband, Yoo In Seok, was accused in 2019 of arranging sexual services for foreign investors alongside former Big Bang member Seungri. Identified as a key figure in the Burning Sun scandal, Yoo In Seok was sentenced in December 2020 to one year and eight months in prison, suspended for three years, on charges including embezzlement, prostitution mediation, violations of food sanitation laws, and breaches of the Act on Aggravated Punishment for Specific Economic Crimes.
As a result of the scandal, Park Han Byul was forced to halt her broadcasting activities for six years.
During the episode, Park Han Byul’s father also appeared and shared his own struggles during that time. He revealed that he suffered from social anxiety and depression, saying, “Even after going days without sleep, I didn’t feel tired. I had no appetite and wandered around like a madman.” However, he found strength by recalling the image of his daughter crying and resolved to stay strong for her.
