After a year-long hiatus, beloved webtoon artist and television personality Kian84 returns with 'Adventure by Accident 4,' sparking high anticipation among fans. As he shared behind-the-scenes stories of the most physically grueling trip yet, his words hinted that this season might be his last.
On May 8, the press conference for MBC’s 'Adventure by Accident 4' was held at the Golden Mouse Hall in Sangam, Seoul. Attendees included PDs Kim Ji Woo and Park Dong Bin, along with cast members Kian84, Pani Bottle, and Lee Si Uhn.
Kian84 greeted the audience with warmth, saying, “I didn’t think I’d be back, so it’s great to return. Of all the journeys we’ve taken so far, this was the toughest. I’m both excited and curious to see how viewers will respond.”
He went on to reveal the toll the trip took on his health: “Usually, I’m bedridden for about two weeks after a shoot. This time, it was nearly a month. I was on IV drips constantly, and my body felt so bad I wondered if I had caught a serious illness. It was personally the hardest trip I’ve ever taken.”
Pani Bottle echoed the sentiment, adding, “I know we say every season is the hardest, but this one really was. That probably means it’ll be the most fun too.”
He also shared his recent weight loss journey, shedding 10kg after taking the anti-obesity drug Wegovy, and admitted the physical challenges were intensified by his relatively sedentary lifestyle. “ Lee Si Uhn trained hard for this one. We went to high-altitude areas and did a lot of physical activity. The difference between those who work out and those who don’t really stood out.”
Kian84 also reflected on the previous spin-off 'Music Trip,' which underperformed in ratings. “Once traveling becomes routine, I think it loses its spark. Doing it out of habit makes it less enjoyable for viewers too. Though Music Trip didn’t do well, it helped us find new momentum.”
He then candidly announced that 'Adventure by Accident 4' would be his final season. “When I ended my webtoon, it didn’t feel like a proper closure. But this time, it does. The director keeps telling me not to say it's the last, but I believe in leaving while the applause is still going. I even got a little emotional at the end.”
Director Kim Ji Woo offered a more open-ended view: “We thought Season 2 was our final trip. The same with Season 3. Even this time, we traveled with that mindset. But after we returned, one of the members said we need to keep going. So, nothing’s set in stone—we’ll have more discussions.”
Kian84 playfully wrapped up by saying, "I really hope I get an award this season. I’d be so grateful. But I heard Jun Hyun Moo is eyeing it too, and who knows about Yoo Jae Suk"
'Adventure by Accident 4' follows Kian84 as he embarks on a challenging journey along the ancient tea route, also known as the Southern Silk Road, one of the world's highest and most perilous mountain trails. The show premieres on May 11 and airs every Sunday at 9:10 PM KST on MBC.
