Girl group NewJeans rose to instant success with their debut in July 2022. The rookie group quickly became one of the top-performing girl groups in the industry, with a powerful run of hit songs including 'Attention,' 'Hype Boy,' 'Ditto,' 'Super Shy,' and more.
However, less than 2 years into their career, controversy struck. NewJeans became embroiled in a legal battle with their company ADOR - with the members seeking to end their exclusive contract while citing mistreatment, and ADOR seeking to establish that NewJeans' contract is in fact still in place and has not been violated through claimed mistreatment of the group.
With the courts recently granting ADOR an injunction to prevent NewJeans from carrying out independent activities, it has now been over a year since NewJeans has officially released new music. In addition, the majority of the group's previously-extensive list of sponsorships have now ended and been taken up by currently active groups and idols.
July 22 will mark NewJeans' 3rd anniversary as a group. But with their legal battle ongoing and the group's future uncertain, it's unclear whether the group will participate in any activities to mark the date. ADOR made the following statement regarding NewJeans' anniversary:
"We hope the recent ruling serves as a turning point for the members to return to their rightful place as NewJeans and resume their group activities.
As NewJeans approaches their third debut anniversary next month, we will do our utmost to support their continued growth and success."
