Park Soo Hong, a well-known South Korean television personality, is reportedly under police investigation after being sued for alleged threats by the CEO of a food company with whom he has been entangled in a legal battle for nearly two years.
According to reports on July 29th KST, the Gangnam Police Station in Seoul received a formal complaint on July 14th from CEO A, who accused Park Soo Hong of intimidation.
The conflict dates back to September 2023, when CEO A’s company filed a civil lawsuit against Park Soo Hong, claiming approximately 500 million KRW (approx. $385,000 USD) in damages for allegedly using Park’s image in advertisements without permission. The case is currently being heard at the Seongnam Branch of the Suwon District Court.
CEO A argues that the dispute arose from a business partnership with Park, and has claimed that the lawsuit is an attempt to gain more profit than originally agreed, stating Park sought “5 to 10 percent of total company revenue.”
According to A, the recent criminal complaint is directly tied to developments in the ongoing civil case.
The complaint states that Attorney B, who represented Park at the time, allegedly said to CEO A in June 2023—shortly before the lawsuit was filed:
“You should beg for forgiveness and admit you’ve committed an unforgivable crime,” and
“It should be to the extent that you’re on your knees, saying, ‘Please spare me.’”
CEO A alleges that Attorney B, under Park’s direction, used Park’s celebrity status and legal representation as pressure tactics.
“They threatened that our company would go bankrupt and even our partner vendors would suffer,”
A stated in the complaint.
Although the alleged remarks were made by the attorney, A chose to file the complaint against Park Soo Hong, arguing that the lawyer acted under his instruction.
Police are expected to summon both parties soon to investigate and verify the facts of the case.
