Former UN member and actor Choi Jung Won has been formally booked by police on stalking charges, and an emergency protective order has been approved, according to SBS.
The Seoul Jungbu Police Station confirmed that on August 16, Choi was accused of stalking a woman he had known by reportedly showing up at her home while armed with a weapon.
In response, prosecutors applied for an emergency protective order to safeguard the victim. On August 18, the Seoul Central District Court granted the protective measures, citing the urgency and repeated nature of the stalking behavior.
Under this order, Choi is prohibited from approaching within 100 meters of the victim, and from contacting her via telecommunications such as phone or text. Violating the order may result in up to one year in prison or a fine up to 10 million KRW (~7,500 USD).
Police are actively conducting further investigations into the specifics of the alleged stalking incident and other related circumstances.
