Rapper Sik-K, who confessed to drug use in May last year, will appear for his appeal trial in April.
According to an entertainment media report on March 14, the Seoul Western District Court, 2nd-1 Criminal Division (Appeals), is scheduled to hold the first hearing of Sik-K’s appeal on April 2, concerning charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (cannabis).
In the first trial, presided over by Judge Ma Seong Young at the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Division 7, Sik-K was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year probation. He was also ordered to undergo probation supervision and complete 40 hours of drug reoffense prevention education.
Judge Ma stated, “The fact that the offenses occurred multiple times, that he used not only cannabis but also ketamine and MDMA, and that he has prior convictions for similar crimes, along with his status as a well-known singer with social influence, are considered aggravating factors.”
However, the judge also considered mitigating factors, including Sik-K’s sincere remorse, his commitment not to reoffend, strong social ties, and the fact that he voluntarily confessed to possessing and using cannabis.
The prosecution, however, filed an appeal requesting a sentence of three years and six months, prompting the upcoming appeal trial in April. Sik-K is accused of using unspecified amounts of ketamine and MDMA between October 1 and 9, 2023, and of smoking and possessing cannabis in January of the same year.
He voluntarily confessed on January 19, 2023, to a police officer near the Seoul Veterans Affairs Office in Yongsan-gu, asking, “Is this the police station?” and admitting to his drug use.
