
The nominees for the Baeksang Arts Awards have been revealed, drawing attention to whether Ryu Seung Ryong will take home the prize—or if Ji Sung or Hyun Bin will claim the honor instead.
On April 13, the Baeksang Arts Awards committee announced this year’s lineup of nominees. Eligible works include content, feature films, and theater and musical productions released between April 1 of last year and March 31 of this year.
In the television category, dramas 'Our Unwritten Seoul' and 'You and Everything Else' lead the pack, each earning nominations in six categories, including Best Drama and Best Director.
Other major nominees include 'The Dream Life of Mr. Kim,' 'Low Life,' 'Bon Appétit, Your Majesty,' and 'Can This Love Be Translated?'
The race for Best Actor and Best Actress is particularly fierce this year. Ryu Seung Ryong earned a Best Actor nomination for 'The Dream Life of Mr. Kim.'
Ji Sung and Hyun Bin are also strong contenders, nominated for Judge Lee Han Young and Made in Korea, respectively. Lee Jun Ho (Typhoon Family) and Park Jin Young (Our Unwritten Seoul) have also been nominated.
For Best Actress, Kim Go Eun and Park Ji Hyun (You and Everything Else) are among the nominees, alongside Park Bo Young (Our Unwritten Seoul), Shin Hye Sun (The Art of Sarah), and Lim YoonA (Bon Appétit, Your Majesty).
In the supporting categories, nominees include Jin Sun Kyu (Aema), Jang Seung Jo (As You Stood By), Im Soo Jung (Low Life), Lee Yi Dam (The Art of Sarah), and Ha Yoon Kyung (Undercover Miss Hong).
The Best New Actor and Actress categories are also highly competitive, featuring Lee Chae Min (Bon Appétit, Your Majesty), Jung Jun Won (Resident Playbook), Bang Hyo Rin (Aema), and Shin Si Ah (Resident Playbook).
In the film category, 'No Other Choice' and 'The King's Warden' are expected to dominate, each receiving nominations in seven categories, including Best Film and Best Director.
Non-mainstream films have also made a strong showing, with Master of the World, Second Semester of Senior Year, and People and Meat nominated for major awards, including Best Film and Best Screenplay.
The Best Actor and Actress categories in film feature a diverse lineup, including Lee Byung Hun and Son Ye Jin (No Other Choice), Park Jung Min (The Ugly), Koo Kyo Hwan (Once We Were Us), Go Ah Sung (Pavane), and Lee Hye Young (The Old Woman With The Knife).
In supporting roles, Yoo Ji Tae (The King's Warden), Jang Yong (People and Meat), Park Hae Joon (Humint), Shin Hyun Been (The Ugly), and Jang Hye Jin (The World of Love) have been nominated.
The Best New Actor and Actress category includes Park Ji Hoon (The King's Warden), who recently achieved box office success, along with Ahn Hyo Seop (Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy), Seo Soo Bin (The World of Love), and Choi Yu Ri (The Daughter Is a Zombie).
The theater category stands out this year for its expanded scope. Nominees for the Baeksang Theater Award include 'The Last Visit,' 'Mirror,' 'Trance,' 'End Wall_What Lies Beyond That Wall,' and 'Jellyfish.'
A newly introduced musical category has also drawn attention. Nominees for Best Musical include 'Long Long Night,' 'Laika,' 'Mongyudowon,' 'Red Horse_The History of Reins and Saddle,' and 'The Man in Hanbok.'
In the musical acting category, a single award will be given regardless of gender. Nominees include Kim Jun Su (Beetlejuice), Min Kyung Ah (Red Book), Park Eun Tae (The Man in Hanbok), Yuria (Evita), and Hong Kwang Ho (Moulin Rouge!).
Meanwhile, the 62nd Baeksang Arts Awards will be held on May 8 at COEX Hall D in Gangnam, Seoul, and will be broadcast live simultaneously on JTBC, JTBC2, and JTBC4.
