‘Family Matter’ is returning for its second season. Coupang Play is drawing strong anticipation as it becomes the platform’s first-ever seasonal series.
On April 17, Coupang Play unveiled a script reading session for ‘Family Matter 2,’ teasing an expanded universe and deeper character narratives.
The Coupang Play series ‘Family Matter 2’ continues the story of the Young Soo family, who arrive in a new city while hiding their past, as they carry out a hellish plan of revenge to protect one another from an increasingly powerful evil force. Built around a unique “brain hacking” premise and distinctive storytelling, the first season became a major hit on Coupang Play.
The script reading was attended by director and writer Kim Jung Min, along with Bae Doo Na, Baek Yoon Sik, Park Byung Eun, Park Solomon, and Lee Su Hyun, as well as key production staff and cast members. The returning “family” from season 1 delivered even stronger chemistry and immersion, while newly joined actors added sharp intensity, quickly filling the room with heightened energy.

Leading the story once again are Bae Doo Na, Baek Yoon Sik, Park Solomon, and Lee Su Hyun, who reunite as the core family. Bae Doo Na returns as brain hacker mother Han Young Soo, continuing her cold and strategic leadership, while Baek Yoon Sik reprises Baek Kang Sung, maintaining his eccentric yet weighty presence. The children Baek Ji Hoon (Park Solomon) and Baek Ji Woo (Lee Su Hyun) are also shown with more maturity, portraying a stronger and more tightly bonded family dynamic. Park Byung Eun joins as Uncle Baek Cheol Yong, a key new turning point in the family’s story, adding a layer of tension.
Season 2 also introduces a strengthened lineup of antagonists, heightening anticipation. Actors Park Ho San, Jeon Hye Jin, Kang Ki Young, Baek Joo Hee, Shin Sung Min, and Lee Joong Ok join the cast, forming a far more expansive and powerful system of “greater evil” that puts intense pressure on the family.

‘Family Matter’ has been praised for its original worldbuilding, intense narrative development, and blend of black comedy elements, earning acclaim from both domestic and international audiences. With Bae Doo Na’s Best Actress win and its invitation to Europe’s largest series festival, Series Mania, the show has already proven its artistic impact. The new season is expected to deliver an even more expanded universe and more intense character clashes, deepening the overall narrative.
Meanwhile, ‘Family Matter 2’ is currently in production and is scheduled for release on Coupang Play in the second half of 2026. Season 1 is available to stream on Coupang Play.
