Girls’ Generation’s Hyoyeon reveals she has been living in SM Entertainment dorm for 19 years “I feel awkward when I have no income”

Girls' Generation member Hyoyeon revealed that she has continued living in SM Entertainment’s dormitory for 19 years.

On April 17, a video titled 'What Happens When People with the Same MBTI Meet: ISTP Rookie Hyoyeon vs ISTP Senior Myung Soo Mirror Match' was uploaded to the YouTube channel Hal Myung-Soo. In the video, Hyoyeon appeared as a guest and shared updates about her recent life.

Hyoyeon said she has been living in the company dorm for a long time and is still doing so. “It’s comfortable because I can rest easily and meals are provided,” she said, expressing satisfaction with her living arrangement.

When Park Myung Soo commented, “You must be able to save a lot of money then,” Hyoyeon replied, “I think saving money is the only way to survive,” drawing laughter. Asked how long she had been living in the dorm, Hyoyeon answered, “It will be 20 years next year,” surprising Park Myung Soo, who remarked, “That might go down in idol history.”

Hyoyeon also questioned why she would need to move out, to which Park responded that most people eventually leave home to build their own personal space, adding that it was the first time he had heard of someone still living in a dorm for such a long period.

Reflecting on her debut days at SM Entertainment, Hyoyeon said, “When I first signed the contract, they told me they would take care of me like a second family, and they still look after me well to this day.”

However, she also admitted, “Sometimes when I don’t have income, I feel a bit awkward. I wonder if it’s okay for me to still be here,” revealing an honest moment of self-reflection.

When asked whether there is any member she would want to live with again in the dorm, Hyoyeon firmly answered, “I don’t want to take anyone in.” She also shared that some members still come and go depending on their schedules. “When a friend comes back late at night after filming a drama, I get startled and think there’s a burglar,” she said, adding humorously, “No matter who comes in, I don’t think I’d feel fully comfortable.”
