Koo Jun Yup gradually returns to daily life while honoring late wife through art

BY Alec06 · April 15, 2026

Koo Jun Yup is gradually returning to his daily life while continuing to honor his late wife through his artwork.

His recent activities were shared by his sister in law, Barbie Hsu’s sister, Dee Hsu, during a recent interview at a cosmetics event.

She said, “He is currently deeply focused on painting, mostly creating works centered on my sister. He has gone beyond simple sketches and is now working on oil paintings.” She added, “The portraits capture her gaze and even her spirit. They are incredibly lifelike.”

More than ten portraits have reportedly been completed so far. She also shared that the family is considering holding an exhibition, saying, “It would be a shame to keep them at home. I hope many people can see how he portrayed her through the eyes of someone who loved her most.”

She also spoke about his condition, noting, “We have family meals every week, and his expression is gradually becoming brighter. He can now joke and smile, and he is doing much better.”

Addressing speculation about a possible inheritance dispute, she firmly denied the rumors, stating, “There is nothing like that. If anything, our family has become closer and more loving.”

Koo Jun Yup is also said to have little interest in returning to television at this time. She explained, “We don’t want to put him in a difficult position. We hope he can continue to find peace in his own way for now.”

Koo Jun Yup reunited with and married the late Barbie Hsu in 2022 after more than 20 years apart. She passed away in February due to complications from pneumonia while on a trip to Japan. Since then, he has stepped back from public activities as he continues a period of mourning.
