Broadcaster Lee Hwi Jae is facing continued backlash following his return to television after four years, as criticism and negative public sentiment show little sign of easing.
A recent online post highlighting commentary from TV columnist Jung Suk Hee has drawn attention, questioning the likelihood of Lee’s successful comeback. Speaking on her YouTube channel, Jung criticized both Lee’s return and the broadcasting network, stating that it reflected a disregard for viewers’ opinions.
She noted that while Lee had not committed any illegal acts or faced a formal ban, his return felt excessive, particularly pointing to a moment on 'Immortal Songs' where he took a hosting seat during the broadcast. Jung argued this was not a spontaneous act but a deliberate decision by the production team, calling it a misjudgment of public sentiment.
Jung also revisited Lee’s past hosting style, describing it as outdated and lacking consideration, with a tendency to mock or belittle others. Past controversies, including remarks made during a 2020 broadcast, have also resurfaced, further fueling criticism.

Adding to the situation, unverified accounts from Korean residents in Canada have circulated online, with some claiming negative personal encounters during Lee’s time abroad. However, these claims remain unconfirmed.
Lee previously halted his activities amid multiple controversies, including issues related to his on air behavior and family related disputes. He officially returned on April 5 through 'Immortal Songs', but ongoing criticism has placed his future activities under close scrutiny.
As the backlash continues, attention is now focused on whether Lee can rebuild public trust beyond simply making a return to the screen.
