Soyou, formerly of the K-pop group SISTAR, unveiled her upscale residence in Seoul’s Hannam-dong, drawing attention for its staggering monthly rent of approximately 13 million KRW (about 8,803 USD).
On April 24, a video titled 'Soyou’s 13 million KRW (about 8,803 USD) Monthly Rent House Tour' was uploaded to the YouTube channel thischangsub, featuring host Lee Changsub visiting Soyou’s home.
During the tour, Lee expressed amazement at the property, describing it as a high-end villa with continuous security presence from the entrance. Curious about its cost, he was visibly shocked upon learning the monthly rent.
When Lee mentioned that the property was not available for purchase, Soyou clarified that it operates on a jeonse long term deposit lease system. She also revealed that she has been living there for six years, prompting Lee to jokingly call her “rich.” Soyou responded casually, saying she plans to move out.
Explaining her decision, Soyou said, “I originally thought I would live here until I got married. But I no longer feel the need to get married, so there is no reason to stay.” She further shared her candid perspective on relationships, adding, “You can date, why is marriage necessary?”
Soyou also noted that the residence had strict tenant requirements. “They mostly accepted foreigners. There are many embassies nearby, so officials lived here. Even celebrities were selectively accepted, it was quite strict,” she explained.
Addressing online rumors, Soyou clarified that her rent had been misunderstood. “People say I pay 12 million KRW (about 8,126 USD) in short videos, but that is not true. I moved in early, so my rent was lower,” she said. However, when Lee pointed out that the current rent is 13 million KRW (about 8,803 USD), Soyou laughed and admitted, “It has gone up.”
The reveal has sparked widespread interest among fans, offering a rare glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle and candid mindset of the popular artist.
