BY Demian09 · April 14, 2026

Bae Seo Chan, the younger brother of singer and former Wanna One member Bae Jinyoung, officially joined the South Korean national short track speed skating team, drawing significant public attention.

On April 12, Bae Seo Chan secured his place on the national team after finishing third overall in the men’s division at the 2026–2027 season national team selection trials held at the Mokdong Ice Rink in Seoul. His strong performance earned him a coveted spot on the squad, marking a major milestone in his athletic career.

Reflecting on his achievement, Bae Seo Chan shared, “My brother was happier than anyone else and congratulated me, which made me even more excited,” revealing his older brother’s enthusiastic reaction.

When asked whether he feels pressure to become more famous than his brother, he responded with determination, saying, “It won’t be easy, but I’ll work hard and give it my best.” Following the news, online communities reacted with congratulatory messages such as “Congratulations on making such a difficult national short track team,” “Their parents must be so proud to have two talented sons,” and “I’m sure Bae Jinyoung is really happy too.”

It is known that Bae Jinyoung was also exposed to various winter sports, including skiing, during his childhood. While he initially had experience in winter sports alongside his family, he later shifted his focus toward pursuing a career in music.

Bae Jinyoung first debuted in 2017 through the Mnet survival program 'Produce 101 Season 2,' which led to his debut in Wanna One. After the group’s disbandment, he re-debuted as a member of CIX and has recently been active as a solo artist. Wanna One has recently attracted renewed attention with reports of a reunion after seven years, alongside upcoming releases related to their past reality program 'WANNA ONE GO : Back to Base.'

With one brother thriving on stage as a singer and the other making his mark on the ice as a national athlete, the siblings are gaining attention for excelling in two very different fields, each shining in their own arena.
