Jang Dong Joo reported to have gotten in police trouble over unpaid bar bill the night before his retirement announcement

According to an exclusive media outlet report on May 16 KST, actor Jang Dong Joo was involved in trouble with the police the night before his sudden retirement announcement. 

Sources say that Jang Dong Joo visited an adult entertainment establishment in Banpo-dong, Seoul, on the night of May 14 KST. His bill during the visit totaled approximately 3 million KRW (~ $2,200 USD). Jang Dong Joo then claimed that an acquaintance would settle the bill and received a store credit of 10 million KRW. However, no acquaintance showed up until 3 AM on May 15, prompting the establishment to call the police. 

An informant stated, "Jang Dong Joo was allowed to return home after promising to pay the 13 million KRW by 6 PM the next day." Soon afterward, he announced his retirement from acting via social media. 

Last year, Jang Dong Joo generated buzz after posting an unexplained apology on social media, then going off the grid. Then, earlier this year, he claimed that he had suffered "billions of won in financial damages" as a victim of phone hacking and blackmail. 

Meanwhile, in the early hours of May 15 KST, Jang Dong Joo wrote on his social media, "As of today, I intend to lay down my life as actor Jang Dong Joo. Every moment spent smiling and crying in front of the camera will remain with me as the brightest moments of my life." 

So far, media outlets have been unable to get in contact with Jang Dong Joo.
