Jung Woo Sung is preparing for a return to the big screen with the upcoming historical film Sal Saeng Bu.
According to reports on May 20, Jung Woo Sung is currently in talks to play the role of Han Myeong Hoe in the film.
“Sal Saeng Bu” is set during the time of Prince Suyang’s Gyeyu Jeongnan coup and will be directed by Kim Hong Sun, known for works including Project Wolf Hunting and Season 3 of Gangs of London.
Interest in the project is growing as recent historical productions centered around the same era have drawn significant attention. The film The Man Living with the King, which focused on King Danjong, attracted more than 16 million moviegoers, while actor Yoo Ji Tae portrayed Han Myeong Hoe in the production.
Meanwhile, the completed film Dream Journey to the Peach Blossom Land also explores the story of Prince Suyang and Prince Anpyeong, further heightening anticipation for how “Sal Saeng Bu” will reinterpret the Gyeyu Jeongnan from a fresh perspective.
Jung Woo Sung previously starred as Lee Tae Shin in Seoul Spring in 2023 and made a special appearance in Harbin in 2024. He also appeared in the Disney+ series Made in Korea.
As “Sal Saeng Bu” would mark his first major theatrical comeback in around two years, attention is focused on what new side of the actor he will showcase.
The film is currently in the casting stage and aims to begin filming in the second half of this year.
