Singer Chae Ri Na, formerly of the group Roo’Ra, has opened up about her struggles with infertility.
On May 9, a video titled “Chae Ri Na’s ongoing pregnancy failures. What should I do about my friends worrying about me?” was uploaded to the official SBS Plus YouTube channel. The clip serves as a preview for the upcoming episode of the variety program 'Lee Ho Sun’s Cider,' scheduled for air on May 16.
Appearing as the first celebrity guest to share a deeply personal story, Chae Ri Na candidly revealed, “I went through repeated egg retrieval procedures under extremely difficult conditions. My physical body was completely worn out from the repeated retrievals, and my mental state collapsed."
She continued, “When I tell people around me that I’ve overcome it and that I’m okay, from their perspective it sounds like, ‘She doesn’t look okay, so why is she saying she is okay?’”
After hearing her story, Lee Ho Sun offered warm and empathetic advice as a counselor, which moved Chae Ri Na emotionally. The singer later joked, “I don’t think I should take the appearance fee for today.”
In related news, Chae Ri Na married former baseball player Park Yong Geun, who is six years younger than her, in June 2016. Now 48 years old, she has shared that she has been trying to conceive through IVF treatments for 11 years but continues to struggle with infertility.
