'Doctor Som Boy' is set to deliver a refreshing healing romance perfect for the humid summer season. Starring same-age actors Shin Ye Eun and Lee Jae Wook in their first romantic pairing, the drama promises laughter, warmth and heart-fluttering moments.
On May 26, the production presentation for ENA’s new Monday-Tuesday drama was held at The Saint Hotel in Guro-gu, Seoul. Director Lee Myung Woo attended alongside cast members Shin Ye Eun, Hong Min Ki, Lee Soo Kyung and Kim Yoon Woo. Lee Jae Wook, who enlisted for mandatory military service on May 18, greeted reporters through a video message.
Shin Ye Eun praised her co-star, calling him “an actor with great depth.” She added, “He understood what I wanted just by looking into my eyes. He was such a comfortable partner to work with.”

In the drama, Lee Jae Wook plays Do Ji, a public health doctor who hates islands because of trauma related to the sea but unexpectedly becomes stranded on Pyeongdong Island. Though prickly on the outside, the character possesses a warm and human side.
Shin Ye Eun transforms into nurse Yuk Ha Ri, a bright and lovable woman hiding her own personal wounds behind her cheerful energy. As the two gradually grow closer while adjusting to unfamiliar island life, viewers can expect a heartfelt romance filled with healing and growth.

Speaking about her role, Shin Ye Eun said, “I think Ha Ri’s lovable side is very similar to my real personality. She’s confident and strong, but unexpectedly delicate as well.”
The series is based on writer Kim Tae Poong’s webtoon Jonbeo Doctor. Director Lee Myung Woo, known for Boyhood and The Fiery Priest, teamed up with writer Kim Ji Soo to create the project.
Director Lee emphasized that “healing” is what sets Doctor Som Boy apart from typical romance dramas. He explained that the key point of the story lies in the love and growth of young people who are awkward yet beautiful in their imperfections, allowing both the characters and viewers to experience emotional comfort together.
Meanwhile, Doctor Som Boy will premiere on June 1 as the follow-up to Scarecrow, which recorded a peak nationwide rating of 7.9 percent and earned praise for its solid storytelling.
Despite the pressure of succeeding a hit drama, Lee Myung Woo confidently said, “We did our absolute best while making this series. I’m waiting for the premiere with the excitement of a newlywed bride, and I hope Doctor Som Boy will remain a meaningful drama for viewers.”
Lee Jae Wook also shared, “I remember crying a lot when I first received the script. I hope viewers will also be deeply moved while watching it.”
