TWICE’s Jeongyeon reflects on overcoming illness and anxiety

BY Alec06 · May 19, 2026

Jeongyeon of TWICE is drawing attention for her noticeably healthier appearance and radiant visuals.

On May 19, fashion magazine DAZED unveiled Jeongyeon’s pictorial for its June issue. Under the concept “Alone, Not Lonely,” the shoot captured her natural and free-spirited moments as she created her own calm atmosphere within an unfamiliar city.

In the released photos, Jeongyeon effortlessly pulled off everything from natural styling to chic urban looks, captivating viewers with her calm expressions and deep gaze. Her healthier aura and more mature look further highlighted her refined charm.

The pictorial has received especially strong reactions because it comes after Jeongyeon overcame years of health struggles and emotional hardship.

Back in 2020, Jeongyeon was diagnosed with Cushing syndrome due to steroid side effects during treatment for a herniated disc in her neck. She also suffered from panic and anxiety symptoms, eventually suspending activities for a period of time. At the time, even daily life reportedly became difficult for her.

However, through consistent treatment and self-care, Jeongyeon regained her health and has since returned to active promotions, including participating in groups’s world tour.

Recently, in a pre-release clip from the tvN variety show ‘You Quiz on the block’, Jeongyeon tearfully expressed gratitude toward her older sister, actress Gong Seung Yeon, for supporting her through the most difficult period of her life.

She held onto me during the time when I was mentally struggling and said, ‘Something seems wrong with your body. I think you need to go to the hospital,’” Jeongyeon recalled. “Thanks to her, I was able to receive the correct diagnosis, get proper treatment, and recover my health.”

Holding back tears, she added, “I’m so thankful and sorry that she’s my sister.”

Gong Seung Yeon also shared her feelings, saying, “I was anxious about leaving my younger sister alone, so I tried to stay by her side as much as possible. I’m grateful that she overcame everything so well. Whenever people say she looks prettier now, it makes me really happy.”

Fans responded warmly online with comments such as “She looks so beautiful,” “This is truly her prime,” and “I’m just happy she looks healthy again.”
