aespa’s Karina sparks another debate after posting blue outfit photos ahead of local elections

BY K-Soul · June 3, 2026

Karina of aespa has once again become the center of online debate after posting photos featuring blue-colored styling just one day before local elections.

On June 2, Karina uploaded several photos to her social media account alongside the caption, “If someone jumps toward you like this, tell me your MBTI and how you’d run away.”

In the photos, Karina poses in a vivid blue sleeveless top paired with blue contact lenses. Her bun hairstyle, check-pattern skirt, and unique styling completed her signature doll-like visuals.

However, some netizens focused on the timing of the upload. The post was shared just one day before the 9th nationwide local elections held on June 3, prompting some people to recall the political controversy she faced during last year’s presidential election period.

Previously, Karina drew criticism after uploading a photo of herself wearing a red jumper with the number “2” on it, prompting speculation that she was expressing a particular political stance. The controversy escalated after several political figures mentioned the post, and the upload was eventually deleted.

In South Korea, celebrities have often been cautious during election seasons, as even small details such as clothing colors, numbers, or hand gestures can be interpreted politically. There have been numerous cases in which colors or symbols associated with specific political parties have sparked controversy, regardless of intent.

Reactions online have remained divided regarding Karina’s latest post. Some commented, “This reminds me of the previous controversy,” “The timing feels coincidental again,” and “After going through all that before, really?” Others defended her, saying, “It’s just simple styling,” and “People are reading too much into colors.”

As there were no statements suggesting any political intention, interpretations surrounding the post continue to vary.

Meanwhile, aespa is currently continuing promotions for its second full-length album, 'LEMONADE,' while meeting fans both in South Korea and overseas.
