ILLIT has once again proven its strong digital power in Japan.
According to the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ), ILLIT’s first Japanese original song, “Almond Chocolate,” surpassed 100 million cumulative streams as of May, earning a Platinum certification in the streaming category.
The RIAJ grants monthly certifications based on cumulative streaming figures, with Platinum awarded for 100 million streams, Double Platinum for 200 million streams, and Diamond for 500 million streams.
“Almond Chocolate” was released in February last year and quickly gained attention for its wistful melody and the members’ clear vocals, winning over both critics and the public. Just five months after its release, the song earned Gold certification for surpassing 50 million streams.
The track continued its popularity afterward, dominating multiple year-end charts in Japan. It also won the Excellent Work Award at the 67th Japan Record Awards, becoming the only song by an overseas artist recognized in that category at the time.
So far, ILLIT has received streaming certifications from the RIAJ for a total of three songs. Their debut track “Magnetic” previously earned Double Platinum in about 10 months after release, setting a new record for the fastest certification of its kind among songs by female groups. Another track from the group’s first mini album, “Lucky Girl Syndrome,” also received Gold certification.
ILLIT is set to ramp up its activities in Japan this summer. The group is currently holding its first Japanese tour, 'ILLIT LIVE ‘PRESS START♥︎’ in JAPAN,' which will continue through next month and visit five cities across the country.
The group is also preparing to release new music. On July 26, ILLIT will unveil all tracks from its second Japanese single, “I Got Your Back,” in Japan. The physical album will follow on July 29.
