INFINITE’s main vocal Nam Woohyun has officially stepped into the world of film with his first-ever movie role in the action thriller 'The Guardian' (Korean title: 납치 48시간) which premiered in theaters on June 17.
In the film, Woohyun takes on the lead role of Park DoJoon, a young man who once dreamed of becoming a national taekwondo athlete. After putting aside his aspirations and settling in the Philippines with his mother, DoJoon finds himself thrown into a desperate fight for survival when she is kidnapped by a powerful criminal organization.
'The Guardian' follows DoJoon's intense 48-hour mission to rescue his mother, combining high-stakes action with an emotional story centered on family and sacrifice. The film showcases Woohyun in a dramatically different light from his activities as an idol and solo artist, highlighting his action performance skills and emotional acting range.
The movie was filmed in Manila and features a South Korea-Philippines collaboration, bringing together an international cast and unique settings. Veteran actors Park Eun Hye and Han JaeSuk also star in the film, adding depth to the crime-action story.
Movie goers have applauded the fast-paced storyline, hand-to-hand action sequences, and the plot twist. Woohyun’s transformation to an action hero has been well received by the audience. Woohyun explained that he had gone to action school for 3 months before shooting the movie to prepare for his portrayal of a taekwondo athlete and the stunts.
The Guardian is now showing in theatres in Korea and is due to be released in the Philippines in September.
