Comedian Kim Shin Young has responded to public concerns about her health following her recent weight gain.
On the June 10 episode of tvN's 'You Quiz on the Block' (Episode 346), Kim appeared as a guest and spoke candidly about entering what she described as a second peak in her career.
During the broadcast, Kim Shin Young revealed that when she maintained a weight of 44 kg (97 lbs), she strictly followed a personal diet regimen that included fasting after 6 PM and avoiding white rice, bread, and instant noodles. However, after being influenced by the late comedian Jeon Yoo Seong, who once said he wanted to eat jjamppong before he died, she decided to stop restricting herself and began eating whatever she wanted. As a result, she reached her current weight in just six weeks.

Addressing concerns over her rapid weight gain, Kim Shin Young explained, "I originally had high cholesterol. The reason I lost weight in the first place was because of health issues. Even after dieting, I was still considered at risk for Type 2 diabetes. I wondered, 'Why is this happening when I'm thin and eating healthy?' But it turned out the diabetes risk was caused by stress."
She continued, "I started eating chocolate snacks and everything else I wanted. I had all my blood sugar levels checked, and they were completely normal. I'm actually more comfortable now."
Meanwhile, Kim Shin Young previously lost approximately 44 kg, dropping from 88 kg (194 lbs), and maintained her weight for about 13 years without experiencing rebound weight gain. Recently, however, news of her noticeable weight gain drew significant public attention.
