Civil lawsuits between actor Kim Soo Hyun and his advertisers are starting again. On July 3, a trial will resume for a 2.8 billion KRW lawsuit filed by a cosmetics company. The company canceled Kim Soo Hyun's modeling contract last year after rumors about his personal life spread. Another health food company is also resuming its lawsuit for nearly 4 billion KRW. In total, Kim Soo Hyun faces about 10 billion KRW in lawsuits from various brands who dropped him over the rumors.
These trials are restarting now because YouTuber Kim Se Ui was recently arrested. Police say the YouTuber spread terrible fake news about Kim Soo Hyun. He falsely claimed that Kim Soo Hyun dated the late actress Kim Sae Ron and caused her death by pressuring her about money. The police also stated that the YouTuber used AI to fake voice recordings and made up fake chat messages to ruin the actor's reputation.
After the YouTuber's arrest, Kim Soo Hyun's agency thanked everyone who worked hard to find the truth and support him during the long wait. Now, Kim Soo Hyun plans to fight back. He is planning to increase his own damage lawsuit against the YouTuber from 12 billion KRW to a massive 30 billion KRW for the harm caused to his life and career.
