Paul Kim targets Japan with self-written Japanese double single

BY Minsoo-Kim · June 10, 2026

Singer-songwriter Paul Kim is taking another step into the Japanese music market with the release of his new double single ‘Zombie Loves Matcha’.

The artist released the project in Japan on June 10, following the positive response to the pre-release track "っちゃめっちゃ会いたい" (“I Really, Really Miss You”), which introduced local listeners to his Japanese-language music.

The title track, "Zombie Loves Matcha," is built around a playful and imaginative concept about a zombie searching for matcha. Combining a bright melody, upbeat rhythm, and Paul Kim’s signature storytelling style, the song offers a charming and lighthearted listening experience. Adding to its authenticity, Paul Kim personally wrote the Japanese lyrics.

One of the song’s notable references is Tokyo’s Ginza Line, inspired by the singer’s own memories of working part-time in Japan. The lyric reflects a real experience when he purchased matcha from a department store in Ginza at his mother’s request.

“Rather than telling an ordinary story, I wanted to imagine something a little more fun,” Paul Kim explained. “Matcha represents more than just caffeine to me—it symbolizes a personal treasure. The lyrics and rhythm are cute and lovable, making it a perfect song for summer.”

The double single also includes "っちゃめっちゃ会いたい," a track that captures the excitement of heading out to meet someone special. Through everyday scenes and warm imagery, the song has already received favorable reactions from Japanese fans.

Paul Kim will continue his local promotions with the release of the ‘Zombie Loves Matcha’ music video later on June 10. He is also set to hold his first fan meeting in Japan on June 14, where he will meet fans and celebrate the new release.
