BY K-Soul · June 12, 2026

The child actress who once brought millions of moviegoers to tears is drawing attention again—this time for how much she has changed.

Actress Gal So Won, best known for playing young Ye Seung in the blockbuster film 'Miracle in Cell No. 7,' has grown into a young adult, leaving many fans stunned by her transformation.

Gal So Won recently appeared in a video uploaded on June 6 to the travel YouTube channel 'Helloing Sanga.' The video followed content creator Sanga as he hosted a charity exhibition featuring items collected through bartering during his travels around the world. Proceeds from the event were donated to war veterans.

Among the visitors was Gal So Won, whose appearance immediately caught viewers' attention.

Introducing her on camera, Sangga said, “You’ve all seen 'Miracle in Cell No. 7,' right? This is Ye Seung from the movie—the little girl who said, ‘Ye Seung, eat your beans.’ Actress Gal So Won came to see the exhibition. This is what Ye Seung looks like now. People don’t really recognize her anymore, do they?

Gal So Won laughed and replied, “People usually don’t recognize me.

Given how strongly audiences associate her with her childhood role, many were surprised to see how much she has matured since then.

The Former Child Star Is Now 20

Born in 2006, Gal So Won turned 20 this year. During the video, she shared that while her family home is on Jeju Island, she is currently living in Seoul.

She attended the charity exhibition to support veterans and even contributed a handmade keychain as one of the items available for exchange.

More recently, she was also spotted at the opening ceremony of the Seoul International Eco Film Festival, where she walked the red carpet in a simple black dress. Her elegant appearance highlighted a more mature image, a stark contrast to the adorable child actress many remember.

Her recent social media updates also attracted attention. After a long break from posting, Gal So Won shared several selfies and mirror photos, prompting online discussions about how dramatically her appearance has changed since her child-star days.

The Child Actress Who Helped Create a Box Office Phenomenon

Gal So Won rose to fame through 'Miracle in Cell No. 7,' released in 2013. In the film, she played young Ye Seung, the daughter of Yong Gu, portrayed by Ryu Seung Ryong.

The heartwarming drama became one of South Korea’s biggest box-office successes, attracting more than 12.8 million moviegoers. Gal So Won's emotional performance and natural screen presence earned widespread praise and quickly made her one of the country's most beloved child actors.

For many viewers, she remains synonymous with the tearjerking role that helped make the film a cultural phenomenon.

Beginning a New Chapter as an Adult Actress

After her breakout success, Gal So Won continued acting while focusing on her education. She appeared in popular dramas including My Daughter, Geum Sa Wol, and The Legend of the Blue Sea, as well as films such as Mr. Zoo: The Missing VIP.

Last year, she took on her first romantic comedy role after being cast as the female lead in the Wavve original drama Namju Search, marking another step in her transition from child star to adult actress.

Once remembered solely as the little girl who moved millions to tears, Gal So Won is now building a career under her own name. While she says many people no longer recognize her, her dramatic transformation is also a reminder that a new chapter of her acting career is just beginning.
