Actress Shin Min Ah has shared her candid thoughts on romance and marriage, offering wise and realistic advice as an experienced senior in relationships.
On June 19, a new video titled "Can a Gumiho be a master of laughter? Even Shin Min Ah?" was released on the popular YouTube channel ‘Nothing much prepared’ (hosted by Lee Young Ji).
During the episode, host Lee Young Ji opened up about her recent thoughts on marriage, asking, "Some people date for a long time and never get married, while others marry after dating for just a short while. I’m curious about when exactly that certainty of 'I need to marry this person' hits you."
To this, Shin Min Ah responded, "Personally, I think the later you get married, the better." She elaborated, "I don't mean that you should date a vast number of people. Rather, you need enough time to truly look into yourself while dating. Before marriage, the process of figuring out what kind of person you are and how you react in certain relationships is crucial."
When Lee Young Ji playfully followed up by asking if she had dated a lot herself, Shin Min Ah put a finger to her lips with a "shh" gesture and jokingly replied, "It doesn't matter now," drawing laughter from the crew.
Shin Min Ah further explained, "Through dating, you learn how you react when encountering specific types of individuals. Those experiences ultimately help you understand yourself better. Even outside of romantic relationships, you need time to reflect on yourself through various life experiences. I don't think anyone needs to rush into marriage."
She also shared her personal criteria for recognizing the right partner. "People often turn a blind eye to things because of their feelings of affection, but in reality, they already know deep down," she noted. "Most of the time, you've already felt the red flags that tell you this person isn't the one." She emphasized, "It’s the same with friendships. There are relationships where you have fun together, but you don't feel entirely comfortable. You shouldn't confuse a relationship being 'entertaining' with it being 'healthy'."

She added a golden rule from her own view on relationships: "If you feel physically sick or completely exhausted after meeting someone, it means you were trying way too hard in that relationship. A person who brings you comfort and stability is ultimately what matters most."
When Lee Young Ji joked, "I wish my future spouse just had 'I am your husband' written across his forehead," Shin Min Ah brought it back to reality, advising, "But you already know who the wrong ones are, don't you?"—perfectly embodying the role of a down-to-earth relationship mentor.
Meanwhile, Shin Min Ah and fellow actor Kim Woo Bin went public with their relationship in 2015 and nurtured their love for nearly a decade before officially tying the knot last year. Their bond is known to have grown even deeper when Shin Min Ah steadfastly remained by Kim Woo Bin's side after he was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer in 2017, supporting him through his temporary hiatus until his recovery.
