Singer Solbi has made a vibrant return with her new summer single, "Holiday," released on June 21. This release marks Solbi's 20th anniversary since her debut with the group Typhoon in 2006, offering listeners a refreshing escape from daily routines.
"Holiday" was entirely produced by performance director Gunzo, with renowned composer Park Hae Woon, known for hits like DJ DOC's "Run to You" and Cool's "Beer and Peanuts," contributing to its high quality. The track features an upbeat rhythm reminiscent of the 90s, perfectly complemented by Solbi's signature powerful and clear high notes, delivering a thrilling summer vibe, according to News1 on June 26.
The collaboration between Solbi and Gunzo dates back eight years to their joint performance on KBS 2TV's 'Immortal Songs'. Gunzo revealed that he had persistently proposed a collaboration for years, but the timing only aligned for Solbi's 20th anniversary due to her deep immersion in art as Kwon Ji An and her overseas activities.
Gunzo's production focused on showcasing Solbi's strengths as a performer, particularly her live stage presence. He even suggested his own clothing for the music video to highlight her natural charm, encouraging her to wear flat shoes for a free-spirited look. Solbi also participated in writing the lyrics, infusing her artistic perspective as Kwon Ji An with lines like "Today the sunlight is a canvas" and "I'm just drawing my own day." The chorus playfully incorporates her nickname, "Roman Princess," with the phrase "Roman Holiday." Through the lyrics, Solbi shares reflections on the challenges faced over two decades, hoping to inspire hope in her listeners.
With the catchy "Gae-dari dance" (dog-leg dance) as its main choreography, Solbi and Gunzo have already captivated audiences at recent water festivals. The duo expressed their ambitious goal: to perform their music everywhere, from intimate stages to global festivals like Coachella. They hope "Holiday" will become a staple on summer playlists and dream of hearing their song playing in unexpected places during the holiday season.
