Yoo Byung Jae’s company BLACKPAPER cites “Misunderstanding” in internship posting, plans to remove controversial job advertisement

BY Demian09 · June 3, 2026

BLACKPAPER, the content production company co-founded by broadcaster and writer Yoo Byung Jae, has responded to online criticism surrounding one of its internship recruitment notices, stating that the posting “contained elements that could be misunderstood” and confirming that it will be revised and removed.

The issue recently gained traction on online communities after a job advertisement posted on BLACKPAPER’s official website on May 12 resurfaced and began circulating widely, drawing attention to its stated requirements and working conditions.

According to the internship posting, applicants were required to be able to commit to six months of full-time work. The role also required an understanding of creator-driven content, entertainment formats, and YouTube content language. In addition, basic proficiency in image editing tools and video editing software was listed as a required qualification.

The posting also highlighted preferred qualifications, including experience managing social media channels or producing content. Applicants with interest or experience in merchandise (MD), goods development, emoticons, and character intellectual property (IP) were also given preference.

Following its circulation, some online users raised concerns regarding the nature of the working conditions and the level of expertise expected from applicants. In particular, the six-month full-time requirement drew attention, as the posting did not clearly specify whether there was a pathway to permanent employment or conversion to a regular position after the internship period. This ambiguity led to further discussion and differing interpretations among commenters.

In response, BLACKPAPER CEO Yoo Gyu Seon addressed the controversy in a statement to Ilgan Sports, saying, “It seems the posting was written in a way that could lead to misunderstanding,” and added, “We plan to revise and take down the job advertisement.”

BLACKPAPER is a content production company co-founded by Yoo Byung Jae and his former manager Yoo Gyu Seon. The company has been involved in a range of productions, including the TVING original reality program 'Blossom with Love' and MBC’s 'Alumni Lovers.'

Meanwhile, BLACKPAPER is home to a diverse group of creators, including comedian Lee Eun Ji and Jonathan, director and creator Lim Seungwon (known for Wonologue), web drama director Lee Tae Dong (Damn Good Company), YouTube creator jimmizo, and Instagram cartoonist Ideabooseo, among others.
