The revamped “Hallyu-Wave” with Japan based groups with Kpop inspired styles

BY SBM · May 27, 2020

The Hallyuwave was a rising era for Korean idols in the Japanese music market. Artists such as Boa, TVXQ, Kara, Girls Generation, and more became huge success stories because of it.

The wave died down a bit, but groups within the new generation such as the top 2 girl groups Twice IZ*One helped revamp it. Now, there is not only a huge surge of Kpop idols of Japanese descent debuting, but there are also Japanese (& Korean mixed) groups planning to debut within the country.

First comes JO1, a rookie 11 member boy group that came from Produce 101 Japan. Their image & concept follows the traditional Kpop style. Despite being new, their debut album surpassed 400k in sales.

There are also many groups set to make their debut.

JYPs Nizi Project is a highly anticipated girl group, with their show already gaining popularity in Japan, as well as worldwide, even amongst Korean fans.

Other groups with Japanese-Korean members are set to debut such as Orbit Union & Orange Latte.

There is Honey Popcorn too, although debuting in Korea only, are fully Japanese amongst its members.

There is also the upcoming boy group project called G-Egg, with Japanese & Korean members.
