Last night social media such as Twitter was full of conversation about the Oscars when actor Will Smith walked up to the stage to slap comedian Chris Rock after a tasteless joke about Will Smith's wife, Jada Smith.
Chris Rock was up on the stage when he was presenting the best documentary award when he went to make a joke about Jada Smith's bald head, referring to the film 'G.I. Jane.' Soon after, Will Smith stomped up to the stage and immediately raised his hand against the comedian. After returning to his seat, Will Smith yelled out, "Keep my wife's name out of your f***n mouth!"
This shocking incident was the talk of the town as it quickly spread through social media. Korean netizens who were also in tune for the award ceremony were shocked as they also watched this happening in an instant.
Korean netizens gathered in an online community to share their thoughts on this incident and also debate whether Will Smith was over-reacting or it was right for him to slap the man who made fun of his wife.
Korean netizens were shocked to see this kind of violence at an award ceremony and debated, "I think Chris Rock crossed the line, he shouldn't have talked about someone else's wife like that," "He deserved that slap for making fun of his wife," "I would have slapped him multiple times," "He's lucky he didn't punch him and it was only a slap," "He deserved it," "omg, I was so shocked to see this," "Good job Will Smith," and "I would have been so angry too if someone made fun of my wife's illness."
On the other hand, netizens commented saying that it is still an assault and commented, "I think Will Smith crossed the line, he still assaulted the man on live TV," "I don't think he should have repaid him in violence," "I understand how Will Smith feels but he still crossed the line," and "I don't think that assault would be counted as self-defense but I completely understand how Will Smith feels. Still shouldn't have done that on tv."
