The 60th Baeksang Arts Awards ceremony was held at Paradise City in Incheon, celebrating outstanding achievements in film and television over the past year. Director Kim Sung-soo took home the grand prize in the film category for his movie "12.12 The Day," while the Disney+ original series "Moving" claimed the top prize in the TV category.
"12.12 The Day," a film centered around the 12/12 military coup, attracted an audience of 13 million last year, securing its success with three major awards: Best Film, Best Actor for Hwang Jung-min, and the Grand Prize.
In his acceptance speech, Director Kim recalled his initial concerns about low theater attendance upon the film’s release but expressed gratitude for the large audience turnout. He pledged continued dedication to creating engaging and high-quality Korean films.
"Moving," adapted from a popular webtoon, became the second OTT original series to win a grand prize at the Baeksang Arts Awards after Netflix's "Squid Game" (2022). The series also garnered the Best Screenplay award for writer Kang Full and Best New Actor for Lee Jung-ha. "Moving" director Park In-cheol recognized every cast and crew member from episodes 1 to 20 during his speech, extending thanks to all contributors.
Veteran actors Hwang Jung-min and Nam Goong Min each won the Best Actor award in the film and TV categories, respectively. Namkoong Min shared his happiness at being able to finally give an acceptance speech after several attendances without winning.
Event MC Shin Dong-yup humorously referred to Hwang Jung-min as "Baeksang's DiCaprio," likening his situation to Hollywood actor Leonardo DiCaprio's late Oscar win despite numerous acclaimed performances.
