Choi Min Shik criticizes theater prices and advocates for higher quality content on MBC’s 'Sohn Suk Hee's Questions'

On the MBC program 'Sohn Suk Hee's Questions' aired on August 17 KST, actor Choi Min Shik shared his candid thoughts, saying, "Right now, it's 15,000 won, so why would you go to the theater when you can sit and watch multiple streaming services? The price is burdensome, that's true." He also emphasized, "The creators need to make better content. It's not about planning projects that cater to the audience's taste, but rather, making the works that the creators themselves want to make," stressing the importance of improving content quality.

Choi Min Sik cited his recent film 'Exhuma' as an example of such a successful work. 'Exhuma', which became the first film this year to surpass 10 million viewers, made history by being a February release in the occult genre. Among the films that have reached 10 million viewers in South Korea, the only other February release was 'Taegukgi' (2004). With the success of off-season releases like 'Spring in Seoul,' which opened in November, the conventional wisdom of box office hits being tied to specific seasons is being challenged.

'Exhuma', in which Choi Min Shik stars, tells the story of a burial site that has been disturbed. Set in Los Angeles, the film follows shamans Hwarim (played by Kim Go Eun) and Bonggil (played by Lee Do Hyun), who take on a request involving a wealthy family cursed by a strange hereditary illness. Hwarim discovers that the root of the problem lies in the ancestral burial site and recommends relocating the graves. Smelling the opportunity for profit, top geomancer Sang Deok (played by Choi Min Sik) and undertaker Young Geun (played by Yoo Hae Jin) join forces to begin the exorcism.
