"This is my Life," BLACKPINK's Jennie embraces life in Italy as 'Maria,' boldly defies her mother's advice about boys

BLACKPINK's Jennie expressed her thoughts on her mother's advice telling her not to hang out with men.

In the JTBC show, 'My Name is Gabriel,' aired on October 4, Jennie was shown living as "Maria" and the owner of a guesthouse in Italy for 72 hours.

When Italian male guests wanted to drink wine, Jennie offered it to them. Defconn then complimented Jennie, calling her the next star after 'Hyori’s Bed and Breakfast.' Kang Min Kyung and Lee Hae Ri also encouraged her to run a guesthouse.

Jennie personally made spritz cocktails and served them to the male guests. She even made a spritz for herself and joined them. While she was chatting and sipping her drink, her mother called her.

As they prepared for dinner, Jennie's mother advised her, "And don’t hang out with boys," as a real mother would. In response, Jennie boldly replied, "Mom, this is my life," which brought laughter.

In the studio, Jennie made spritz cocktails for Defconn, Kang Min Kyung, and Lee Hae Ri. Kang Min Kyung enjoyed the drink, saying, "It’s so delicious."

The Italian male guests said to Jennie, "We have something to ask. We think we’ve seen you before." Jennie played along, saying, "I work here." When one of the guests revealed, "There’s a poster of you in my sister’s room," Jennie pretended not to know what they were talking about. Even when they sang BLACKPINK songs and questioned her, “Don’t you recognize it?” and “Are you sure you don’t sing?” Jennie then ran away.

Later, while setting a table, Jennie was meticulous, even concerned about the tablecloth's length. She also noticed the table lacked color and asked her mom for some colorful napkins.

Jennie explained in an interview, "I care about harmony. If one thing is out of place, it bothers me," showcasing her attention to detail. She eventually cut pink flowers from the tree outside to decorate the table.

When the evening guests arrived, Jennie accidentally spilled water while serving and was tense during the plating and serving process. She muttered to herself, “I should have prepared more thoroughly,” but still gave her best effort. In the studio, Jennie confessed, "They were real guests, and since it was something I’ve never done before, I kept doubting whether I was doing it right, worrying if I was being a burden."

Afterward, Jennie had a meal with her mother. She reflected, "You pushed me in a very tough way," adding, "I think this is the way to help Maria grow." She continued, "Today, I realized, as mom said, love is a choice."

Her mother pointed out a piece of artwork in the house, explaining it was painted by her father. Jennie’s mother revealed that Maria’s father had been suffering from Alzheimer’s since she was 5 and eventually had a stroke, leading to paralysis.

Jennie opened up, saying, "When I was young, horseback riding was everything to me. It was my only escape from the world." Her mother was surprised, saying, "I think we were meant to be," as Maria also raised and rode horses from a young age. Jennie admitted, "It was destiny to come here."

The next morning, Jennie went shopping for pizza ingredients like fish, sausages, and vegetables. She returned to the guesthouse and made the dough from scratch.

After tasting the pizza baked in the wood-fired oven, Jennie enjoyed the Bianca pizza, which had no tomato sauce, and joked, "It’s so delicious. I almost installed a wood-fired oven at home."

For dessert, Jennie made tiramisu. While whipping the cream, she proudly said, "I even made dalgona coffee out of boredom during the COVID-19 pandemic."

Jennie impressed Lee Hae Ri by making tiramisu just by following the recipe in a book. Lee Hae Ri expressed her amazement, saying, "How can you make it just by reading the instructions?"

Jennie also led a pizza class for her mother’s guests, explaining how to make pizza. Despite making frequent mistakes due to the heavy workload, one of the guests, Mario, lightened the mood with his playful nature.

On the final morning, Jennie met the horse Bambi before her 72 hours living as "Maria" came to an end. Jennie bid farewell to her mother and left. In her interview, she said, "The positive energy mom gave me feels like it will bring significant changes to my life."

A video letter from her mother played, where she said, "I was worried. You’re living a life constantly under the spotlight, which is not easy. This place will always be here if you need to rest. I hope we can see each other again."

The real Maria was the woman who had given Jennie the horse, Bambi.
