'Good Day' production team addresses controversy over Kim Soo Hyun's appearance and edits him out of show

The production team of the MBC variety program 'Good Day' has released a statement regarding actress Kim Soo Hyun's appearance on the show.

On the morning of the 17th, 'Good Day' addressed the controversy through YouTube, stating, "The production team acknowledges the seriousness of the controversy surrounding the appearance of certain participants on 'Good Day', and we are continuing production while prioritizing viewers' reactions." They added, "The fifth episode, which aired yesterday, was urgently edited to remove Kim Soo Hyun's appearance in the 'Good Day Assembly' segment after discussions with MBC and global OTT platforms. The episode was already in the process of translation when the controversy escalated. As a result, the final version was approximately 10 minutes shorter than usual and lacked some details."

The production team further explained, "Regarding the recording on March 13, the audio recording for Good Day was delayed, and we were waiting for an official statement from Kim Soo Hyun's agency regarding the controversy. However, since the agency planned to release a statement the following week (starting March 13), and rescheduling appearances afterward would have been difficult, we reluctantly proceeded with the recording after much consideration."

They continued, "We have decided to edit out Kim Soo Hyun's appearance from the show as much as possible. The individual recording session with this participant on March 13 will not be aired."

Meanwhile, the family of the late Kim Sae Ron alleged on the YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute that actress Kim Soo Hyun had been in a six-year relationship with Kim Sae Ron, beginning when she was a minor. In response, Kim Soo Hyun’s side clarified that their relationship only started after Kim Sae Ron had reached the legal age.

In the 'Good Day' episode that aired on the 16th, Kim Soo Hyun's individual shots were edited out, though he remained visible in group scenes.

The production team acknowledges the seriousness of the controversy regarding certain participants on the program, and we are continuing production while prioritizing viewers' reactions. 'Good Day' is a pre-recorded program, filmed at least one to two weeks in advance due to the translation process required for international broadcasting and distribution.

The fifth episode aired yesterday amid the escalating controversy. After discussions between MBC and global OTT platforms, we urgently edited out Kim Soo Hyun's appearance from the pre-recorded version, which had already been translated and was in the process of being finalized. Consequently, the episode was approximately 10 minutes shorter than usual and lacked some details.

Regarding the recording on March 13, the audio recording for 'Good Day' was delayed beyond the planned schedule, and the production team was waiting for an official statement from Kim Soo Hyun's agency regarding the controversy. However, as the agency planned to release its statement the following week (starting March 13) and rescheduling the participant’s appearance afterward would have been difficult, the production team reluctantly proceeded with the recording after careful consideration.

After extensive discussions, we filmed the segment while minimizing interactions between this participant and others, keeping in mind the possibility of future edits. We sincerely apologize for any concerns this process may have caused to viewers who love 'Good Day'.

As long as controversy regarding certain participants continues, we are concerned that the original purpose of 'Good Day'—which was created with good intentions—along with the efforts of its participants and the love and support of viewers, may be negatively impacted.

The content released after the fifth episode, starting from the latter half of the 'Good Day' Assembly segment, was filmed on February 18. These events will unfold in episodes 6 and 7, and the production team has decided to edit out Kim Soo Hyun’s appearances as much as possible. His individual recording session from March 13 will not be aired.
