IU drew attention with her performance in the MBC drama ‘Perfect Crown.’
In the first episode, which aired on April 10, IU takes on the role of Sung Hee Joo, a woman from a wealthy family who faces limitations tied to her social status. The premiere introduces multiple sides of the character, from her appearance at school to her role as CEO of Castle Beauty and her presence at a royal birthday event.

IU delivers several key moments through restrained expressions, particularly in scenes where her character confronts perceptions about her background. Without relying heavily on dialogue, she conveys emotion through her gaze and subtle facial movements. In another pivotal scene, Sung Hee Joo directly proposes marriage, further defining the character’s personality and narrative direction.

The second episode continues the storyline through her interactions with Prince Ian, along with supporting characters such as Secretary Do, maintaining the flow of the drama.
However, responses to IU’s performance have been mixed. While her visual presence and screen impact have been noted, some viewers have pointed out that her portrayal at times feels less immersive, with certain scenes resembling commercial or pictorial shoots. Others have suggested that the production places greater emphasis on visual styling than emotional depth in parts of the series.
Episode 3 of ‘Perfect Crown’ will air on April 17 at 9:50 p.m. KST and will also be available on Disney+.
