Nana confronts home intruder in court, expresses anger during testimony “Are you enjoying this?”

Singer and actress Nana openly expressed her anger toward the defendant during a court hearing related to a violent home invasion case.

On April 21, the First Criminal Division of the Namyangju Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court, presided over by Chief Judge Kim Guk Sik, held a trial for a man in his 30s, identified as A, who has been indicted and detained on charges of robbery resulting in injury.

Appearing in court as a witness, Nana confronted the defendant as soon as she entered the courtroom, saying, “Are you enjoying this? Look me straight in the eye.” She was subsequently instructed by the judge to take her seat.

The court acknowledged her emotional state but urged calm, stating, “We understand your feelings, but the trial cannot proceed smoothly if emotions escalate.” Nana responded, “It’s impossible not to feel emotional,” before regaining composure and continuing with her testimony.

Recounting the incident, Nana described hearing her mother’s groans along with the breathing of a man inside their home. “I sensed danger immediately, so I moved as cautiously as possible. When I saw what was happening, I was extremely agitated and felt I had to quickly separate my mother from the man,” she said.

She added that she had not initially realized the intruder was armed. “I didn’t imagine he had a knife and thought I needed to take it away. But judging by his behavior, I realized he was holding one and could harm my mother at any moment. I instinctively acted in self-defense,” she explained, confirming that a physical struggle ensued.

Nana further revealed, “My neck was injured by the knife I was holding, and I was bleeding. At that point, A said, ‘I was wrong, I’m sorry, please spare me.’ Seeing him as a robber, I felt I needed to calm him down and hear what he had to say.” She then signaled her mother silently to call the police, emphasizing that bringing a weapon into the home was an inherently dangerous act.

The defendant is accused of breaking into Nana’s home in Acheon-dong, Guri, Gyeonggi Province, at around 6 p.m. on November 15 last year, threatening Nana and her mother with a weapon, demanding money, and injuring them during the incident.

Nana and her mother ultimately subdued the intruder after a struggle. The defendant later filed a counter-complaint against Nana on charges including attempted murder, but police determined her actions constituted self-defense and declined to forward the case. Nana subsequently filed a false accusation complaint against him.

Although Nana and her mother had previously submitted statements indicating they would not attend the trial as witnesses, the court issued another summons, leading to her appearance in court on this day.
