Soyou shares honest fitness reality after 20kg loss, “I focus on glute work separately”

Soyou candidly shared the realities of maintaining her physique even after successfully losing 20 kilograms.

On April 13, a video titled 'How High Can My Glutes Go?' was released on her YouTube channel. In the video, Soyou presented her lower body workout routine and offered an honest look into the effort required to achieve and maintain physical transformation.

Before beginning her workout, she said with a laugh, “I think I will be focusing on my lower body today. I worked on it yesterday as well, so it may hurt even more.” She then performed a series of exercises alongside her trainer, including side plank clamshells and banded hip abductions. 


Emphasizing the intensity of the workout, Soyou stated, “You really have to engage and squeeze your entire body.” During the final hip thrust exercise, she continued repeated movements while supporting weight on her thighs and maintaining full body engagement.

During the session, Soyou also shared practical advice. She explained, “If you are starting from having almost no glute muscles, it is extremely difficult to build them. While you can lift sagging muscles, increasing their size requires sufficient carbohydrate intake to support muscle growth.”

She added, “Many people want to stay slim while only increasing the size of their glutes, but that is not realistic. The lower body develops as a whole, and the glutes grow as part of that process.”


Soyou further emphasized the importance of consistency, stating, “Just like abdominal muscles, glutes will reduce again if you stop training them. Glute exercises are always part of my routine. I make sure to stimulate them regularly while also incorporating upper body workouts.”

After completing her workout, she joked, “Why am I not sweating today?” and added with satisfaction, “It was still a solid workout.” Previously, Soyou revealed that she reduced her weight from 68 kilograms to 49 kilograms, drawing widespread attention for her transformation. Her honest reflections on the continuous effort required, even after significant weight loss, have resonated with many.

Meanwhile, following her activities with SISTAR, Soyou continues to pursue a variety of projects as a solo artist.
