'The King's Warden' will launch its IPTV and cable TV VOD services alongside its theatrical run.
Beginning April 29, the film will be available across multiple online and mobile platforms, including IPTV services (Genie TV, Btv, U+tv), digital cable TV (Studio Choice), OTT platforms (Wavve, Apple TV, Coupang Play, Watcha, Google TV, YouTube), satellite broadcasting (SkyLife), and web storage services.
The version released through IPTV and cable VOD platforms will feature enhanced VFX effects in select scenes compared to the theatrical cut.
Additionally, the film’s ending credits will include the OST track “Companion,” performed by actor Jeon Mi Do, who received praise for her role as Maehwa, adding a lingering emotional touch.
'The King's Warden' tells the story of a village head who voluntarily exiles himself for the prosperity of his community and a young dethroned king, set in Cheongnyeongpo in 1457. The film achieved a major box office milestone, ranking No. 2 of all time and drawing 16.63 million viewers.
Meanwhile, the controversial tiger CG, widely cited as a flaw despite the film surpassing 10 million viewers, will be revised.
Director Jang Hang Jun appeared on SBS’s 'News Hunters' on April 11, where he addressed the criticism. He acknowledged the tiger CG as the film’s biggest shortcoming, explaining that the original release was not planned for the Lunar New Year season but for April to May.

He elaborated that during blind test screenings, where general audiences watched the film without prior information and with incomplete CG, the movie received unexpectedly high scores. As a result, the distributor pushed for an earlier Lunar New Year release.
“With the release date moved up significantly, there was very little time left for CG work,” Jang said. “The CG team and I were disappointed, but we had no choice. In a way, I’m relieved. It would have been far more critical if the actors’ performances had fallen short. Fortunately, it was the CG that did.”
He added that CG work is still ongoing, as the film will remain available on OTT platforms. “Since this will remain as part of cinematic history, the CG company wants to continue refining it to the very end, even working on each strand of fur. This improved version won’t be seen in theaters but will be available on OTT.”
The film continues to maintain strong box office momentum, recently surpassing 10 million viewers and recording a cumulative audience of 11,884,042 as of the 10th, cementing its status as a breakout hit.
However, controversy surrounding the tiger CG quality persisted, with viewers dubbing the scene the “ugly tiger,” giving it an infamous nickname.
