Shownu and Hyungwon open up about unit comeback and longtime friendship

MONSTA X unit Shownu X Hyungwon shared stories about their latest activities, music, and close friendship during a recent appearance on a YouTube variety show.

Shownu and Hyungwon recently appeared on the YouTube program 'Jo Hyun Ah's Ordinary Thursday Night', where they discussed promotions for their second mini album 'LOVE ME' and their recent activities.

During the episode, the duo talked about their upcoming appearance at the 'Waterbomb' festival in July and hinted at their stage outfit concepts, building anticipation among fans. They also demonstrated key choreography from their title track 'Do You Love Me', continuing the excitement surrounding their comeback.

The two members also shared behind-the-scenes stories about their solo songs. Shownu revealed that he spent a lot of time thinking about his first solo track, explaining that he wanted to showcase a stronger and more powerful concept. Hyungwon said he intentionally created a thematic connection between his solo releases, noting that while his previous solo song centered on water, he chose fire as the key motif for his latest track.

Their friendship became one of the episode's main highlights. Hyungwon described Shownu as the member whose personality matches his own the most.

"He’s someone I feel comfortable with even when we're doing absolutely nothing," Hyungwon said.

Shownu echoed the sentiment, calling Hyungwon a comfortable drinking companion and revealing that they often visit old-school local restaurants together.

The pair also spoke about MONSTA X's unique team culture. Hyungwon explained that the members operate a late-fee system in which anyone who arrives late must pay a penalty. He joked that after completing his military service, he became even more determined never to pay the fee and now makes a greater effort to be punctual.

When discussing how they spend their days off, Shownu shared his love for saunas, while Hyungwon said he enjoys visiting restaurants he has saved on his personal list of places to try.

The members also took time to promote tracks from their new album. In particular, Shownu recommended Hyungwon's self-composed song 'Superstitious', describing it as a perfect track for summer listening.

Closing out the interview, Shownu X Hyungwon thanked their fans, saying that the support of MONBEBE made it possible for them to release a unit album and embark on a world tour.

"We'll continue to do our best until the very end of the tour. We love you," the duo said.
