Broadcaster Ahn Sun Young has sparked discussion after revealing that she was unable to take an IELTS examination due to a late arrival.
On June 9 KST, Ahn shared her experience on social media, explaining that she struggled to find the correct parking area and spent considerable time navigating one-way streets before finally parking her vehicle.
According to Ahn, she arrived after the designated entry deadline for the exam and was denied access to the testing room. She expressed disappointment that she missed the cutoff by only a minute despite making it to the venue.
Ahn also noted that the exam fee was approximately 300,000 KRW(~200 USD) and said she was disappointed by the response she received when asking whether an exception could be made. She added that she had cleared her schedule for the day specifically to take the test and wished more detailed parking information had been provided to candidates.
The examination in question was the IELTS (International English Language Testing System), a widely recognized English proficiency test used for study, employment, and immigration purposes in English-speaking countries. Under official regulations, candidates must complete identification and check-in procedures before the designated closing time, after which entry is prohibited.
Following Ahn’s post, online reactions were mixed. Some commenters sympathized with her frustration and agreed that clearer parking guidance could be helpful, while others emphasized that examination rules must be applied equally to all candidates and that arriving before the deadline remains the responsibility of the test-taker.
Ahn Sun Young debuted as a comedian through MBC’s 11th open recruitment class in 2000. She married a businessman in 2013 and is the mother of one son.
