Singer Baek Ji Young recently shared her firm stance against malicious online comments, revealing she has taken legal action against trolls in the past and emphasizing the serious impact of such penalties on their social lives.
On June 30, Baek Ji Young appeared as a guest on YTN Radio’s ‘Wise Radio Life,’ where she introduced the 'GEM' (Gatekeepers for Entertainers’ Mental health) group. She explained that the group, which includes fellow celebrities like Shin Ae Ra, Lee Sung Mi, and Song Eun Yi, began meeting after they found themselves too frequently at the funerals of colleagues who had taken their own lives.
For the past three to four years, the group has focused on learning about trauma and actively reaching out to colleagues who appear to be at risk, even those with whom they have no prior close relationship. Experts have also joined the initiative, helping the members review their past efforts and identify effective and less effective approaches.
Regarding malicious comments, Baek Ji Young stated that it is impossible to eliminate them entirely. She confessed to having pursued legal action against commenters who attacked her family or made her feel personally targeted. She stressed that while some might question why they are being punished when others are worse, the "punishment" itself, whether a fine or a recommendation, carries significant weight.
Baek Ji Young highlighted a concerning trend where some individuals who have faced legal penalties for malicious comments even boast about it. She noted that any form of legal "punishment" can genuinely impact one's social life and that malicious commenters should be aware of these serious repercussions.
