Former AOA member Jimin opens up about emotional struggles ahead of comeback

BY Minsoo-Kim · June 9, 2026

Former AOA member Shin Jimin has shared an emotional message with fans ahead of the release of her new single.

On June 9 KST, Jimin posted a lengthy statement on social media, revealing the emotional challenges she faced while preparing for her comeback. She wrote that she had been “a mess for a month,” struggling to explain her feelings and becoming increasingly sensitive.

According to Jimin, she often returned home feeling hurt without fully understanding why. She also revealed that despite rarely drinking alcohol, she found herself relying on it to fall asleep, adding that medication alone was not enough to ease her distress.

The singer described the physical toll of the stress, saying her face appeared dark and exhausted, her hair had begun turning gray, and she had developed a habit of biting her hands to the point that even washing her hair became painful.

Jimin also opened up about the emotional burden of public criticism. She expressed frustration that even close friends received negative comments simply for being associated with her.

Despite the hardships, Jimin thanked the people who continued to stand by her side. She said she does not seek overwhelming love or recognition, but hopes to become someone her friends, fans, and family can be proud of.

Jimin officially departed AOA in 2020 and is set to release her new single ‘WYA’ on June 10.
