Former AOA member Kwon Mina has revealed the current condition of her burn injuries following a medical accident.
On June 5, Kwon Mina shared a lengthy post and photos on social media, saying, “Many people have been worried about my recent skin condition, so thank you.”
The photos showed the current state of her skin, and she explained, “I’ve been consistently receiving treatment at a specialized hospital, so visually it has improved a lot compared to January,” but added, “From this point on, the recovery has slowed down, and honestly, I’m very scared.”
She continued, “At first, I was told I would need around two years of treatment along with skin graft surgery, but now I’m looking at at least one more year of treatment,” adding that “the possibility of permanent scarring also cannot be ruled out.”
Recalling the time of the accident, Kwon Mina said, “At the end of last year, I signed contracts with several places and had filming schedules lined up, so I was really happy.” She added, “Even on the day I received the Shrink procedure, we were talking about upcoming schedules.” However, she said, “I suffered a deep second-degree dermal burn and was unable to attend the scheduled shoots.”
She also revealed the financial losses she suffered during the process. Kwon Mina explained, “After missing the shoots, I refunded the appearance fees, and I was in no position to cover the preparation costs as compensation.” She added, “The director who performed the procedure provided about 20 million KRW (approx. 12,823 USD) in support, including 9.2 million KRW (approx. 5,902 USD) in damages related to filming losses, as well as medication and treatment costs through March.”
She clarified, “This was not money I received without proof,” adding, “I submitted medical certificates and detailed receipts before asking for help.” She continued, “After March, the hospital said they wanted to proceed with legal action, and support for future treatment costs was cut off, so I’m now paying for all medical expenses myself.”
Kwon Mina also shared, “I’m covering not only treatment costs, but also psychiatric medication, transportation, medication expenses, and products that help with recovery.” She added, “Because of my skin condition, I couldn’t participate in filming, and the amount I lost is about KRW 74 million. There were also additional contract opportunities worth around 20 million KRW to 30 million KRW (approx. 19,246 USD) that can be verified through contracts and messenger conversations.”
She revealed that she is currently considering legal action. “I consulted with about seven law firms, and they all mentioned the possibility of medical negligence and violations of medical law,” she said. “I first proposed a settlement of around 35 million KRW (approx. 22,453 USD)for one year of future treatment costs, and I also left the matter of emotional damages for the director to decide.”
However, Kwon Mina said, “The response I received was that my words could instead be considered a threat.” She added, “The director may also be having a hard time, but how do you think I feel after my life completely changed overnight?”
Previously, Kwon Mina revealed in January that she suffered burns during a dermatology procedure.
