Veteran actress Lee Mi Sook has released a statement following rumors saying she was involved in the controversy that led to actress Jang Ja Yeon's death.
Jang Ja Yeon took her own life in 2009 after preparing a document stating she was forced to participate in sexual relations with publisher officials, executives from corporations and other financial institutions, and media officials, and rumors stated Lee Mi Sook had a hand in what caused her to eventually commit suicide.
Lee Mi Sook stated:
"I apologize for causing worry to so many people because of this unfortunate situation. I'd like to carefully deliver my statement on the situation involving late Jang Ja Yeon myself. I was careful because I worried about each and every word I said of the rookie actress, who had such a tragic death at an early age, would be misconstrued and edited into gossip rather than for clarifying the truth.
I also think the death of late actress Jang Ja Yeon is unfortunate. I'm willing to undergo additional questioning if needed to reveal the truth behind her death. However, I believe an investigation that my fellow citizens approve of and one that will restore the reputation of who passed should take place.
I'll do my best so there will be no more misunderstandings or suspicions because of the death of the late Jang Ja Yeon. Thank you."
In related news, Jang Ja Yeon's former labelmate Yoon Ji Oh has been attempting to return spotlight on the re-opened case.
