Last March 5, a Philippine news magazine show called Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho (KMJS) aired an episode featuring an issue wherein K-pop fan "Bea" purchased a range of items with money stolen from her grandmother, including photo cards and albums of various K-pop artists such as New Jeans, ENHYPEN, NCT, BTS, and BLACKPINK.
Bea was brought up by her grandmother, who owns a plastic bag business in a Quezon City public market. Bea was employed by her grandma and was paid P350, or roughly $6.40 per day.
When Bea's K-pop collectibles got bigger, her grandmother's money ran out, leaving her with a P2 million supplier debt. The family realized that Bea had spent the money the store had lost on K-pop memorabilia after her aunt discovered tons of merchandise hidden inside her closet.
Yet, several Filipino K-pop fans expressed their doubts about the issue and blasted Jessica Soho for featuring Bea in their show. "#CANCELKPOPJAGIYAPH," “Bea,” "KMJS," and "Jessica Soho" trended in Twitter on March 7.
A Twitter user revealed that Bea hail from a rich family. Another Twitter post revealed that her family is often on vacation and that the episode may have been catered to as a marketing plan to help her family sell K-pop merchandise.
